Hello and Welcome to the Toddler/Pre-K Classroom at Developing Minds!  

          Our 2011-12      Toddler/Pre-K Students

Your child will need a Sleeping bag, pillow case, nutritious lunch, snack, and drinks ( a breakfast if eating after arrival), water is provided.  They are also allowed one special nap time item (blanket or stuffed animal).
Please supply pull-ups if your child wears them at nap time along with toilet wipes. Extra bottoms for accidents can be kept in the cubicles. 
    Developing Minds Toddler Pre-K Program will teach your child Social Sciences (AKA Social Studies), Music, Math, Science, Art, and Language Arts.  Each child will have age appropriate lesson plans designed specifically for their age and developmental level.  Whenever possible lessons will include games, fun, outside time or gym time. 
During Social Science your child will learn to identify solutions that arise from disagreements and bullying, accepting and appreciating individual differences, sharing and taking turns, family relationships, and health and safety through games and interactive play. 
While in Math your child will learn how to identify patterns, shapes, sorting, comparing, counting, numeral recognition (ordinal and cardinal), measuring, problem solving, graphing in a fun and interactive way. 
In Science your child will learn about the four seasons, plants, animals, people, weather, the planets, recycling, food, their bodies, and the holidays through hands on experiments and interactive play. 
For Language arts, your child will learn the alphabet, shapes, colors, and textures.  They will hear stories, poems and riddles.  They will discuss story sequences and personal reactions to situations. Learn to supply alternate endings, same or opposites, similar sounds, visual perceptions and fine motor skills, pre-writing activities, proper pencil positions.  For older students, handwriting skills, writing upper and lower cases letters.  We also will test reading level against Dolch sight word lists once a week and keep track of progress of each student.     
At Music/Art/Gym will cycle each week.  Monday Music, we will learn about different musical instruments, different types of music and dance.  Tuesday Art will be a free arts and crafts time where your child will learn cut and paste, drawing, designing and creative inventions.  Wednesday Gym will be a chance to move their bodies in a safe, organized, fun game play.  Random Thursdays will be extra time in whatever lesson they enjoyed the most. 
Friday Fun Day will be totally devoted to play where the children can interact and play as a reward for a week of hard work.  They will also enjoy a special treat and receive prizes for good behavior.

Each school day ends at 3pm, but the fun and learning do not stop there as the children will transfer to our after school program.  This will be a chance for children to learn social behavior as they interact with each other and play with all that Developing Minds has to offer.  It is also a chance for one on one attention for any child needing extra help in preparing for kindergarten.
